My mate got one of his mates to bore out his engine for like £300... although i think it would cost a hell of a lot more if you didn't know someone, or maybe he got ripped off? you could get a performance exhaust.

What about it making it breathe a bit easier? Guessing youve got a standard airbox? Smooth it out, smooth out all of the pipes (swap with high quality pipes) and swap the filter for a performance panel filter (K&N/Pipercross is good, I got one from Courtenaysport for £30). Could even shorten the intake pipe into the airbox. Makes a big improvment :D Drilling the airbox can help, but I think it can cause turbulence so didnt risk it myself.
These are the power figures from tests on a Nova - they tested induction kits and airbox mods and found the best mods were from a performance panel + modded airbox. The tests were done by Revs magazine.

What car is it? Could you swap the fuel pressure regulator for a 4bar or an FSE valve?

get it superchipped, though i'm not sure if that will work on a non-turbo car

Don't listen to any of these dumb asses u said u want it to go faster and be cheap. A super chip isn't cheap, plus it's not going to make it go any faster by itself which means you need other parts which mean more money. Get the picture. if u want a little more horse power for not a lot of money get a cold air intake. it's simple to install all u do is take your air filter off and bolt the cold air intake on and there u go. It sends blasts of cold air straight into your engine so it increases your horsepower which increases your speed. Are we learning yet?
well have fun and don't take advice from the dick heads above they don't know what they are talking about.

Theres alot of piggy back resistors available now which fool your ecu into thinking its getting much cooler air combine 1 of these with an induction kit and cold air feed.
cooler air is more dense so to compensate the ecu provides more fuel and slightly advances the timing = horse power gains and less mpg
The chips cost between £5 and £10 on that well known auction site
I have also full instructions on how to cheaply build your own electric turbo / supercharger pm me with your email addy and I will forward you a copy
yeah your car will go a bit faster but your fuel wont last as long as it used to
