Its not worth just gettin a back box, save the money, get a full stainless cat back system, prices start from £250 lifetime gaurentee and they pay for them selfs, they make a considerable amount of diference to the performance, well worth the investment also you can chose what u want it to look and sound like. i got mine from top gear cat back stainless powerflow system, really recomend them, very relaible, was ready in just 2 hours.

is that not 5 times the price? its alright if ur loaded...
You saying a backbox is totally useless? if so then its pointless wasting ££ on, might sound cool though.

Yes, they refer to them as "fart pipes" here. Loud, annoy for those having to hear it, and absolutely no performance increase.

like i said above, why not just remove the back box all together?! Do you have to have an exhaust by law, or could you just have it end under the car, or at the side? you could get the fumes sucked out if it was at the side, that'd improve performance...

i think there might be laws on the sound ! but there is def laws about the emissons the car gives out. but the back box does not do much to the emissons. if u wont it to be loud u need to put a new cat in with no silencer. or u could remove the cat all together ! but u can get finded £1000 i think if u dont have one

Ive always though backboxes were just a waste of money, Think we should keep to the car modding than rather pulling it to pieces, Doubt you could tune your exaust if u dont have one, The idea of a perfomance exaust is that the feed back valuable gases to increase engine power, not just blast them out of a massive hole.

The exhaust feeds back valuable gasses? I'm not saying you're wrong, but what are they?

Umm... an exhaust frees up airflow, allowing for more power to get by... hence the point of a real exhaust + headers. If the crap can't get out, then you get power loss. Having a muffler with a hole the size of a football won't do anything but increase sound, since the rest of the exhaust is still the same.

Thats what I thought, it's just there to get rid of gasses...
Theres probably a point at which improving the exhaust wont give you anything though, because the engine can surely only get rid of so much gas per second...
